“Swagat is a tiny little hole in the wall in a less than easy to get to neighborhood with less than ideal parking, but I think it's worth the effort to get there. I think they have seating for about 15 people and its not very fancy, but the most important thing in a restaurant is the food - and everything we experienced was delicious and enjoyable and very affordable. We started with a very good Masala dosa, we shared Saag Paneer and Kadai Vegetables, both were very good and the portions were reasonable for about $9. I had a cardamom ice cream for dessert that was also excellent. We ended up spending about 1/2 what we usually do at a place down post road in Orange. Wish it was closer to home.”- Ronald S. “John (the owner and at times one man show) is amazing. Great guy, super nice and hospitable, always willing to make you something off the menu if you don't see something you want or have a taste for something specific...
Masala Dosa's are great and the coconut chutney is tasty. The sambar is good to order in the winter when you're trying to knock out a cold as it's hearty and spicy. The masala tea is always a nice way to cap-off a good meal, and Swagat is also one of the few places that carry Limca and Thumbs Up among other native soft drinks. However as helpers from UNH and elsewhere come and go, I've noticed the quality of the food change. My experience has been if John's cooking, it's gonna be good, otherwise it's a crap shoot.”- DJ L. “Excellent, authentic Indian. A good deal better than any downtown counterparts. Inexpensive with excellent, attentive service. Try roghan josh, or curried goat.”- Martha D. Simsbury, CT
“Johns is by far "the best, most creative, innovative" chef I have ever encountered. He has been a one man show which really kept the prices low and the quality superlative. Now he has trained a staff and Swagat has taken a turn towards posh! Atmosphere is heightened and romantic, service is very good and prices are up to standard for Indian restaurants in the area. New items have been added to the menu and the quality is excellent, tasty authentic delicious dishes can be relied upon. Go ahead and give it a try for lunch and you will be hooked.”- Donna C. “Great food compared to the downtown places, comfortable atmosphere and great pricing. Plus it's the only place I've found since moving out which has Punjabi coffee.”- Chris A. Washington, DC
